I know it's dead here but I wanted to say hi. HI. I'm Lanie, 20 years old, and I'm 3 weeks post op from IVRO (that is, intaroral vertical ramus osteotomy) and Lefort I osteotomy. Good times. I was wired shut, and today's my appointment to get unwired... I'm pretty excited. After the first week things were much better. I never had a ton of swelling nor a lot of loss of sensation in my face; my upper lip and cheeks are a bit numb, as is the tip of my nose for some reason, but every day it's getting better. The swelling was in the side of my face and lower jaw, then it migrated to my cheeks, and I had a double chin until a few days ago. I guess I'm lucky that I didn't swell up with my wisdom teeth, so thus I didn't get a lot of swelling here. I had a bruise on the left side of my face on my lower jaw that bloomed during surgery, but otherwise I am unscathed! All my stitches have fallen out, they all came out after about 10 days. In three weeks I get desplinted and I can go back to school...yeehaw!

It sounds like your surgery went very well. Welcome to the other side!
I am going in for Jaw Surgery round III (with hip graft) on Wednesday - getting a HIP JAW.
How much movement did your doc do?
I had my lower advanced 20mm and my upper raised 5mm (that was Jaw Surgery I which took place in March 2004).

Happy healing.

Re: Congrats!
I REFUSED to do a hip graft... I'm too scared, and my mom offered the bone, but my surgeon was like, "Eh, it's not needed!"

I got my lower moved back 7mm and my upper moved forward about 4mm I believe, and as my upper jaw was kid of tilted, he straightened it out. :)

What surprised me is how I've had no pain. It's just annoying being on the liquid diet, but the wires are getting cut in a few hours, so I can no longer whine about it!! I lost so much weight, and I'm worried about that, since I was 98lbs pre-surgery and now I'm down to like 86! (I'm 4'10", haha.)

Re: Congrats!
And good luck on your upcoming 2nd surgery! Wow. I don't think I could do this a 2nd time!

Re: Congrats!
Oh, this is my THIRD surgery! The allograft earlier this year failed.
My lower jaw is abnormally thin so I don't have much of a choice if I ever want to chew again. OY!

Re: Congrats!
Yeah, I was surprised at how little pain I had as well. I only took the pain meds for a day after the surgery then switched over to liquid motrin.
I'm more nervous for this round since we're doing the hip graft. I've heard that the pain is not too much fun.

Time to add butter & heavy cream to all your meals. The weight will come back in no time!
